L'Arche assistants receive extensive training in providing services to people with intellectual disabilities. Experienced professionals with master's degrees and other advanced training in social work, nutrition, behavior management, nursing, and counseling guide and support them. In addition, L'Arche has expert consultants in psychology.

Services to people with intellectual disabilities include
  • Managing health care, including nursing oversight if needed
  • Helping with at-home therapies prescribed by health care professionals
  • Managing medications
  • Training in self-care and self-management skills
  • Training in communication and interpersonal skills
  • Assisting with personal hygiene and care, and providing it if needed
  • Teaching skills like reading, playing tennis, taking public transportation
  • Supporting decision making and planning
